1. Deck Construction
- Each deck must contain exactly 60 cards.
- No more than one copy of any card with the same full name is allowed.
- Each deck must designate exactly one Crowned (a character with the Shift keyword) and one Signature Song.
- The deck's ink identity is determined by the combined inks of the Crowned and Signature Song. Only cards sharing at least one of those inks may be included.
2. Starting the Game
- Each player places their Crowned and Signature Song into the Crowned Zone.
- The Crowned Zone is public. Cards there are not considered to be in hand, deck, discard pile, or inkwell.
3. Crowned Rules
- The Crowned may be cast or Shifted from the Crowned Zone at any time its controller could normally play it.
- Each time it is cast or Shifted from the Crowned Zone, it costs 2 additional ink for each previous time it was played this way (this is the Crowned Tax).
- If the Crowned would be put into its owner's hand, library, or inkwell from any zone, its owner may choose to return it to the Crowned Zone instead.
- If it is in a face-up public zone (like the discard pile) and has been there since the last game-state-based action check, it may be moved back into the Crowned Zone.
4. Signature Song Rules
- The Signature Song may only be played while its controller's Crowned is in play.
- It may be played by either:
- Singing it with the Crowned (following normal singing rules)
- Paying its full ink cost
- It may be sung by any of your characters, but only if your Crowned is in play.
- After resolving, the Signature Song returns to the Crowned Zone.
- If it would go to any other zone, it returns to the Crowned Zone instead.
- Each additional time it is played from the Crowned Zone costs 2 additional ink (this is the Signature Tax).
5. Winning the Game
- To win, a player must reach the following lore totals:
- 2 players: 20 lore
- 3 players: 30 lore
- 4 players: 40 lore
- 5+ players: 40 lore +10 per player beyond 4
